Well, another week has passed and time continues to move forward with such a rapid pace, it sometimes seems that I cannot keep up with it. January is more than half over and the first day of 2013 seems like moments ago. I some ways, this is fine. But looking at the big picture, that of reaching the upper echelon of the age bracket, it does seem a bit scarey.
Where in hell did all this time go? What major feats have I accomplished during all those years? And what can I accomplish in the limited time I have left? It was only a few weeks ago that I was chasing lightning bugs through the night pastures and catching frogs from the old farm pond, now disappeared by years of sediment. The first 3 speed bike I bought at Sears & Roebucks by raising a Holstein calf for 4H and working my first paying job at a local chicken farm. Many memories, few regrets but I am still dreaming.
I know that what I do to earn a paycheck is doing something that means much more than ‘just a paycheck”. I also know that if you enjoy what you do to earn that paycheck, it is not considered work. Work is something we do or have done that put bread on the table and fuel in the car. It was the dreaded alarm clock buzzing at 6:00 AM or earlier and that morbid drive into work, sucking down the first of many coffees and smoking that cigar before reaching the point where “No Smoking” has been introduced by elitists who have this craving to dictate their beliefs onto others, irregardless. Work is something that we “need” to do to fill Uncle Sam’s coffer so that the politicians can waste it.
Employment with a position one enjoys is very much different. The getting up in the morning, that mundane drive and a cup of fresh coffee is a gift. The paycheck is secondary. I have one of those positions and with the exception of Thursdays, I have no complaints and even look forward to reaching my office each morning. Thursday are only lamentable because it is the day prior to Friday and Friday is the day prior to the weekend and I do enjoy my weekends also. We all need time out, even with the job we enjoy.
I guess the bottom line here is that if we are going to spend most of our adult lives trying to earn a paycheck, then one needs to find what their passion is. This is essential to strengthen the spirit. Then, once you have found that passion, follow through and find that something that allows you to fulfill your destiny and dreams.
We are all where we are in life according to our own choices, so choose wisely. That is a truth.

You are a lucky man, Ryeder, to have found your passion and lived it.
I am…and am still living it…thanks
